Comments
For basic printing functionality use the HPIJS driver . For advanced functionality such as printer status and maintenance features, use the HPLIP driver (which includes HPIJS).
Older comments:
Same printer as the HP DeskJet 812C, does 600x600 dpi in colour with Gimp-Print 4.1.5 or newer ("gimp-print").
Mostly works, but the color is a bit off.
Redhat 6.x install (somewhat older user report):
Download source for ghostscript 5.50 (not 6.0, not 5.1, and not GNU ghostscript, which is installed in RH as an rpm). Get the cdj880 driver source and follow the directions and compile and install gs 5.50. (you can "make install" without removing the RH ghostscript rpm, since 5.50 installs into /usr/local/bin instead of /usr/bin). Then you can hack around printtool, using it to set up the username/password etc for the printer, but then hand-modifying the /etc/printcap entry it creates to say "cdj880" instead of whatever driver you had to pick (I couldn't figure out how to get printtool to list the driver as an option, thus the hack). It prints! (maybe make sure /usr/local/bin is before /usr/bin in your PATH).

cdj670, which comes with Ghostscript 5.1/5.5 seems to work very
well with the printer. cdj550 also works, but the color is far
inferior to cdj670 so I haven't seen any reason to use it.
