This driver is free software.
Type: Ghostscript built-in

Generic Instructions: CUPS, no spooler, PPD aware applications/clients,

Important for Windows clients: The CUPS PostScript driver for Windows has a bug which makes it choking on PPD files which contain GUI texts longer than 39 characters. Therefore it is recommended to use Adobe's PostScript driver. If you still want to use the CUPS driver, please mark "GUI texts limited to 39 characters" to get an appropriate PPD file.

This driver is available in the Ghostscript Printer Application

This driver entry is for Ghostscript's PCL XL raster driver, accessible through the output devices "lj5gray" and "lj5mono". By choosing the output device the halftoning mode (grayscale or monochrome) is chosen. PPD files from this driver entry allow to set the halftoning mode by an option.

PCL-XL driver for the LaserJet 5, 6 (not 5L and 5P) and compatible models up to 1200 dpi resolution. Note that the "pxlmono"/"pxlcolor" drivers are much faster than this driver, but due to a bug they do not work in Ghostscript 5.50, in Ghostscript 6.51 they work excellently. "ljet4" is also much faster, but has a much worse output quality and on most printers it only does 600 dpi.

The resolution must be given with the "-r" option on the command line of Ghostscript. Preceeding the PostScript file by a PostScript command for setting the resolution does not work (at least not for 1200 dpi).
