The printer supports both USB and WiFi. I tested only USB. Note that a USB cable is not included, I reused the one from my old printer. Any standard USB 2 peripheral cable (male B, male A) will do.

The printer just works (including colors) with the Gutenprint driver. (I currently use Gutenprint 5.2.13, the version shipped by Fedora 27.) There is only one quirk that I found: The print quality presets are only "Standard" and "Manual Control". To set the actual print quality, just set the quality preset to "Manual Control" and pick the desired resolution+quality combination under "Resolution". The one reason that I am not giving a "Perfectly" rating (as far as printing is concerned) is that Gutenprint reports a maximum resolution of 600×600, which is significantly lower than the 4800×1200 claimed by the manufacturer.

The printer supports duplex (two-sided) printing. This just works with the Gutenprint driver, just enable the option.

This is a multifunction printer that can also scan and do on-device copies. Scanning (using the Skanlite application) works fine with the default settings with the
sane-pixma
driver provided by SANE. (I currently use SANE 1.0.27, the version shipped by Fedora 27.) However, I found the brightness/contrast/gamma settings to react quite wierdly: even changing the settings and setting them back to the default does not restore the colors to the default, only unchecking "use custom gamma curve" entirely does. Even though scanning is not really in scope on this site, this would also make me uncomfortable giving a "Perfectly" rating (but I am not giving that rating anyway due to the printing resolution limitation).

There are also proprietary drivers provided by Canon. I have not tried those because the FOSS drivers work well enough for me.
